FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Delta Sigma Pi?
Delta Sigma Pi is the premier professional co-ed business fraternity at the University of California, San Diego. As part of the National Professional Fraternity Association, we are open to students pursuing business-oriented careers where we offer professional development, a strong global network, and lifelong brotherhood.

What is a Professional Co-ed Business Fraternity?
Professional fraternities are organizations whose primary purpose is to promote the interests of a particular profession and are different from social fraternities and sororities. Being co-ed, we are open to both men and women and historically was one of the first professional fraternities that became open to women back in 1975.

How big is Delta Sigma Pi?
Delta Sigma Pi has 305 active chapters and nearly 300,000 initiated members, making us one of the largest Business Fraternities in the United States. Apart from that, we also have chapters in Canada, Mexico, and Europe that establishes our presence on an international scale. Our chapter has over 50 brothers, and we recruit new brothers during our recruitment seasons: fall and winter quarters.

What majors do you accept?
We generally accept students with majors in Economics, Business Economics, Joint Econ-Math, and International Business. As a side note, we do make exceptions and take students of other majors (i.e. Computer Science, Data Science, Cognitive Science) into our pledging process on a case-by-case basis, so do not let your major be a deterrent from coming out to our recruitment week.

What are the types of people you are looking for?
As a fraternity, we hold ourselves to a high professional and personal standard; as such, we evaluate potential members based on their professional and personal qualities and what they can offer to the chapter. A good framework to look at would be our four pillars to get an idea of what qualities we look for in candidates.

What is the time commitment?
The general idea is to liken it to taking another 4-unit class, but through experience, your actual time commitment may vary depending on how much effort you put into the program.

Can I join Delta Sigma Pi if I am already a part of another fraternity/sorority?
Yes. The only time you cannot pledge for Delta Sigma Pi is if you are specifically already a part of another professional fraternity, rather than a social or multi-cultural fraternity/sorority.

I applied in previous quarters but didn’t receive an invitation to pledge. Should I reapply?
Definitely! You are more than welcome to come out again and showcase how you’ve improved yourself in terms of your professional and personal growth.

I’m ready to apply! How do I get started?
Find us on Library Walk and come to our recruitment events, talk to as many brothers as possible and make yourself stand out by engaging in meaningful conversations with many different people. Lastly, be yourself and show us who you are! The brothers of Delta Sigma Pi are excited to get to know you throughout Recruitment week!
