Brother Spotlight: Eric Truong & Fashion

Name: Eric Truong

Major/Minor: International Business/Cognitive Science and Design

Class: Alpha Epsilon

Why did you join Delta Sigma Pi?

I was first drawn to Delta Sigma Pi because I wanted to meet more people in my major. I had just switched the summer before my second year and so I didn't really have a clear idea on what I wanted to do for my career. After going out to recruitment, I was really drawn by the brotherhood I felt among those in the fraternity and also by the professionalism from each person.

How has Delta Sigma Pi enhanced your college career?

Delta Sigma Pi has honestly had such a huge impact on my college career. Having my brothers around me to support me in school and my personal life has been such a blessing. I know I can always count on someone to help me with an assignment, deliver food to me in Geisel at 3 in the morning, or be a shoulder to cry on.

What field of business are you interested in and how has Delta Sigma Pi prepared you for professional work?

I'm interested in working in marketing after college, preferably at a fashion or tech company. Delta Sigma Pi has really helped me learn more about my career by connecting me with such outstanding people. It has also given me the opportunity to work on myself professionally by teaching me interviewing and networking skills.

What is your favorite aspect of Delta Sigma Pi that not many people know about?

My favorite part about being in Delta Sigma Pi is the brotherhood. I've built so many bonds with the people in this chapter. Delta Sigma Pi introduced me to some of the most important people in my life, people I can truly call close friends.

What are some of your passions and hobbies outside of business?

Outside of business, I'm really passionate about menswear, music, and traveling. I play piano and percussion and I sometimes play vibraphone for the MUS 95JC jazz ensemble.

When did you start to like fashion?

I first got into fashion back in my sophomore year of high school. I used to wear cargo shorts and Quicksilver t-shirts everyday and one day one of my older friends told me I should start dressing better to improve my image. Ever since then, I slowly got more interested in menswear which led me to work as a stylist at J. Crew and more recently, Bonobos at UTC. Even though I've been interested in fashion since high school, my personal style has really grown in the last year as I slowly started to look more closely at menswear designers such as Todd Snyder and Frank Muytjens.

Do you have any future plans to create a fashion-related business?

I'm not really sure about opening a fashion-related business, I'd much rather work in marketing for a fashion company. Some companies I've been looking at for internships include Everlane and J. Crew. However, I would love to one day open my own menswear store in Los Angeles or NYC and curate my own selection of apparel and decor.
